If you’ve started shopping for a playground, you know by now that there are thousands of options. So how do you know what type of playground is best for your school, neighborhood, or church?

Factors to Consider

Choosing safe playground equipment starts with considering who will be using your playground. Four factors to think about are:

• Age – How old will the children using your playground be? How much variation in age will there be?
• Frequency of Use – How often will children be using your playground? Do you need a school playground that will be used every single day, or a small neighborhood playground that will get more occasional use?
• Number of Children – How many children will be using your playground? Will there be hundreds of students a day, or a few dozen Sunday school attendees a week?
• Accessibility – How much do accessibility and inclusivity?  will it matter to you in your playground design? Do I know there are children in your community who will rely on an accessible design?
